Solving Algae Problems |
|
1) You may have too small of a pump or filter for the size of your pond. *Check the size of your pump and filter. The rate of flow per hour should not be any greater than the volume of the pond. The pump should circulate at least half the volume of the pool every hour.
2) Your pond may be in full sun. * If it is in full sun you will have to increase the size of the filter and pump by 25% to compensate for the increased algae blooms that will occur in full sun.
3) You may have recently cleaned your pond, made water changes or your pond may be new. *Your pond needs to find it’s ecological balance. If you need to clean your pond, do so in the spring. DO NOT change the water after that. Every time you change or add water, your pond has to cycle or balance its self. It takes 4-8 weeks for your pond to cycle or balance. We recommend adding Microbe Lift/PL, which is all- natural beneficial bacteria and organic barley straw bales to you pond. This increases the function of your filter and combats algae blooms, including string algae.
4) You may be adding COLD water to your pond. *Whenever you add cold water to your pond and the pond is in the heat of full sun, it creates a great environment, for algae to increase. If you are continually adding more water to your pond, your pond will never really balance itself and you’ll be combating algae and ammonia levels all the time. When your pond is out of control or you do not have the patience or time to wait, we recommend Algae Fix. Algae Fix is a chemical that will kill the algae. The algae will die, drop to the bottom of the pond and become compost and fertilizer to feed the algae. We recommend you add Microbe Lift/ PL to digest the dead algae.
